About The Baclayon Church, also known as the Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, is one of the oldest churches in the Philippines. It was first established as a wooden church by Spanish missionaries Fr. Juan de Torres and Fr. Gabriel Sanchez in 1596. The stone structure that stands today was built in 1727 by around 200 forced laborers using coral stones and egg whites as cement. |

How to Go There The church is about 6 kilometers east of the city of Tagbilaran. Travelers can catch a bus or jeepney from Tagbilaran that heads towards the direction of Baclayon. Upon reaching the town of Baclayon, they can take a tricycle and head towards the church. |

Other Details Visitors can explore the church and its museum, and appreciate the architectural beauty of the structure. The church has withstood various calamities such as storms and earthquakes for hundreds of years. It even withstood World War II. However, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake in 2013 destroyed half of the church, including its bell tower. |
