Manggahan Restobar Review

I have a big physique and I enjoy eating especially when I’m at home. I can eat anything that’s inside our fridge. LOL! Sometimes, I just can’t help myself but to ask my friends, especially during paydays to eat out and reward ourselves with a munch! I’ve been through different restaurants, formal or not, but there’s just one thing that my palate keeps telling me — go find Filipino foods at reasonable prices 🙂

One Friday night, a friend of mine invited me to visit a restaurant named Manggahan. It opened just this year and is serving delicious Filipino dishes at a pocket’s delight. And since she’s a food like me, it didn’t take a while for her to convince me. We’ve decided to check out the place after work.

Manggahan Restobar is relatively easy to find. You got two options here:

Take a PUJ ride with a mark bearing 04-C. It will pass through Camp Lapu Lapu and St. Therese Church. A quick walk straight ahead and you’ll see the Manggahan signage
For car owners, head over to Camp Lapu-lapu upon reaching JY Square. Along the road, you won’t miss the Manggahan signage. The parking space is very limited, able to accommodate up to 4 vehicles only at a time. You can park along the road but you have to be cautious as authorities regularly rove around this area and if they caught you park in the sidewalk, then you are in big trouble.

The restaurant has a closed dining area, fully air-conditioned with lots of dining tables to choose from. At the back is the open and covered dining area where guests can smoke and drink freely.

What I love about Manggahan is the accommodating and ever-smiling servers. They serve food between 5 and 10 minutes, which I still consider a fast service. Sinabaw na Larang and Sisig are just two of my favorite dishes. The UNLIMITED RICE for only 20 pesos is to die for! One serving is already good for 2-3 persons and the price range is generally affordable at PhP 150 to 200, enough to make you full!

I am looking forward for Manggahan to expand to different places in Cebu to reach even more patrons. I’d say this is a must-visit restaurant in Cebu especially for Balikbayans who are craving for delicious yet affordable Filipino cuisines.

Lantaw Floating Native Restaurant Review

For some of you who didn’t know, secretly I have this big appetite. My metabolism is fast that is why I easily get hungry and I always eat. May it be a small bite or a big craving, you will see me eating from time to time. Way back when I was still working in Manila, every payout I always make sure I reward myself by splurging on a food trip.

I love to discover new places and seeing new sets of menu. By the time I got back in Cebu, I asked my mom what’s new and the first thing I heard from her, the first thing that comes out of her mouth was Lantaw Floating Native Restaurant. Aside from the fact that it’s just minutes away from where I live, she said people are talking about it like crazy. Okay, maybe it was just exaggerating.

So, I told my mom why not celebrate my 25th birthday there. She agreed with me and my birthday came. I invited my in-laws to celebrate together with my family. By the time we got there, the place was quite far especially if you’re from the city. The relaxing seaside view welcomed us and a crew greeted us at the entrance. You have to pass by a little bridge in order for you to get to the main hall. The crew and staff were very accommodating. They have at least one crew per table to further assist you.

When they gave the menu, I hurriedly opened it because I was quite in a tight budget knowing it was my treat but surprisingly, when I saw the price list, I was shocked. The foods were affordable and just exactly what I needed. They serve seafood, meat and vegetables, lots of options to choose from. The foods taste good and tempting, dieters will have a difficult time keeping their diet.

My favorite was their Tinolang Halaan, Baked Scallops and Tahong, and Lechon Kawali plus they have rice platter for the big appetite or those who come in groups. They also have their own four-season juice with a twist – Cordova Cooler. If you’ve grown tired of dining out in city restos, why not try Lantaw for a change. The ambiance is great, the staff is accommodating, the foods are satiating, and the price — affordable! They serve native cuisine and they apply “the reduce, reuse, recycle” theme because their jars and glasses were made from recycled mayonnaise jars. Such a brilliant and ingenious idea.

The place is jam-packed with crowd especially at night, so if you guys plan to go there by night I suggest you should make reservations unless if you are willing to wait for the long queue. So for all the foodies out there, this is a must place to dine in. And this coming payout, I might go back there because their Baked Scallops and Tahong are to die for but this time, I might head out to their new branch in Busay. Looking forward to see the breathtaking view of the city of Cebu.

Wat Ever Family KTV Cebu Review

One thing Filipinos are known of, we love to sing. Who doesn’t, right? I know you guys agree but truth be told, karaoke machines can be found anywhere in the Philippines. I admit, I love to sing…. A lot! I’ve been to different KTV bars and all have different ambiance or style but the common thing is that, a KTV won’t be complete without a microphone, a wide screen TV and a songbook.

Me and my friends, we did experience KTV hopping from one place to another and then the list goes on, and then last week, a friend of mine told me that there’s a new KTV that opened recently. I just can’t wait and so I went there to check the place. Wat ever KTV is the first in Cebu, they have other branches in Cagayan de Oro and Dumaguete.

As I arrived at the place, the sign is very catchy because it is very colorful. The place looks small from the outside but it is very clean and just enough space from the inside. From the looks of it, you can tell that the place is new. Anyways, there are 12 rooms that can accommodate 8-15 people. The room is fully air-conditioned, the quality of the mic is good, the songbook are all updated, so you can sing with your recent favorite songs.

The room have disco lights perfect for songs that makes you wanna dance as you sing along. And the fun part is that their rooms and menu list have different unique and catchy names, names that are fun and worth to be remembered. Our room name is Why oh Why. See? Very original and unique. The place is clean and the service is fast. Once you press the red button for assistance, in less than a minute, someone will knock the door and voila, the attendant is there to assist you in time.

I definitely would suggest this place to everyone. The place can be located easily, plus the room rates are very affordable. For Php88 you can sing all you can for an hour, you can also order food at a very reasonable price. Not bad for starters, right?

So if you plan of going there, I suggest you should make such reservations because they never ran out of customers and the rooms are always full. So what are you waiting for? Now is the time to prepare a list of your favorite songs and head to Wat ever Family KTV. It is the place to be for singers like you and me. =)

Sun Broadband Pocket WIFI MF-51 Review

Sun Broadband Pocket WIFI is a nifty device for sharing your internet connection via Wireless Fidelity (WIFI). I’ve been eyeing to buy this gadget since day one but why shell out cash when I can have it for free from Sun Cellular. So I had one last week as part of their loyalty program a.k.a. Sun Perks. The device is Sun-locked and comes with a 24-month contract, which I care less because I’ve been a postpaid subscriber for many years now.

There’s a rumor in the forums that Pocket WIFIs are supposed to boost the signal and speed strength. In my opinion, this isn’t quite accurate at all. While MF-51 offers up to 72 14.4 Mbps of speed, it’s still very much a network-dependent device which means your ISP, Sun Broadband in my case, controls the overall performance of your connection. Luckily, I live in Talisay City, Cebu where connection problems rarely occur compared to other areas in Cebu City where persistent disconnection and extremely slow downloads are beyond a joke.

There are basically two modes you can use to acquire a connection from the Pocket WIFI – cable and wireless. Laptops can take advantage of both but since I’m using a desktop PC that doesn’t have a wireless dongle, I only use the USB-provided cable for that, which is efficient and ingenious because it charges the device while I’m using it.

When I’m out and about, I just turn on my phone’s WIFI and connects to the Pocket WIFI device in seconds. If I’m not mistaken, the device can last up to 4-5 hours before recharge for a one (1) device at a time usage. I can only assume the battery would drain much faster if two or more devices use it at the same time.

Overall, I’m a very satisfied user because it works out of the box! However, if you’re not keen on setting up gadgets, you would want to ask help from their Help Desk Agents to do that on your behalf. The first time I use it, the gadget only sees an EDGE connection instead of the usual HSDPA, so tweaking the settings is required via its browser-based interface.

How to password-protect your WIFI?

If you need to put password to your WIFI, so that only those legit may use it, you need to go to its Settings Page by accessing it through http://ufi.home/ via your web browser. Once you’re in, simply go to the Settings >> WIFI Settings >> Security.

How to reset the device in case you forgot the password?

Press WPS and Power buttons simultaneously, and hold on about three seconds until all LEDs are off, then release the buttons, the device will restart automatically and restore to the factory default settings. The default login password is: admin.

Update: (06/12/2013): I’m experiencing configuration resets lately. I can’t explain why it’s happening and don’t honestly think it’s a battery/power issue. I’ve set the device to use only HSDPA since day one and suddenly reverted to Edge connection without any warnings minutes ago. ~~Unlike the USB plug-its, you don’t get visual cues (LED light changes color) if Edge is being used~~. By the way, the green LED indicator turns blue whenever Edge connection is active.
