I used to apply insect repellent lotion to my son when he’s a year old. It worked well, but I had to stop because he gets irritated. He has this habit of scratching his eyes and nose when he’s sleepy. When I apply lotion to his arms and hands, it goes to his eyes when he scratches so I guessed it was not a good idea.
I know how it felt because I also have the same habit when I was younger. Inigo got that habit from me. The lotion felt like burning on the eyes! That’s when I go hunting for alternatives and I came across Human Heart Nature’s insect repellent. Some of my fellow moms said it’s worth the try so I immediately purchased it online from a sister’s friend. She is one of the store’s “social entrepreneurs.”

The oil smells like azeite de manzanilla. Too powerful as others say, but to me, it’s just fine. As long as the product is effective and won’t cause allergies, it’s definitely worth trying. I used the same oil for my baby before bedtime so I guess he did not even notice when I spray the Bug Shield to his skin. Just because it’s oil means it’s greasy. It actually feels light once applied to the skin. I also use it and I love it.
I usually spray after bathtime in the morning and at 3:00 pm because as they say, Dengue mosquitoes start to become active during that time. Upon researching, I also learned that they bite two hours after sunrise and a few hours before sunset. Sunrise is usually before 6:00 am so that means they are active around 7:00 am.
Let me tell you how it worked for my son. He did not have any insect bites because of the oil. I feel relaxed knowing that he can play outdoors without having bites once he comes home. I like bringing him to the playground. I was just concerned that there are some mosquitoes because of many plants and trees all around.
Still, it makes me feel secure that the mosquitoes won’t come near my son because I use a reliable product for him. Now he’s turning three and we’re still using it. Will I purchase again? Yes, again and again. Is it worth the money? Hell yeah! Less than a hundred pesos for a 100 ml bottle is a good deal. Will I recommend this to other moms? Yes!
